In Sennan-shi, Osaka, the verdant mosaic of rice paddies and the thatched-roof houses create a traditional Japanese scene. It is here that you will spend an enriching day experiencing a lifestyle that dates back centuries. Sponsored by the Osaka YMCA, you will learn about the region’s environment, the customary diet and farm operations. Then, depending on the season, you will work in the rice paddies, plowing, planting or reaping the rice by hand. Afterwards, you will prepare a lunch using traditional earthen stoves, clay or iron pots and fuels that you will collect prior to cooking. Rice and vegetables harvested will benefit those in need in the local community.
