The Birds and the Bees

Join this special volunteer opportunity to help protect avian residents of the Carolina Raptor Center, home to orphaned, injured and homeless raptors, bald eagles and other rare and magnificent birds of prey. The Birds and the Bees is ideal for guests of all ages and includes a behind-the-scenes tour of the Carolina Raptor Center, an informative Meet the Keeper presentation, lunch at the Center and the opportunity to spend two hours working directly alongside Center staff to build and maintain habitats for resident raptors. Upon your return to The Ritz-Carlton, Charlotte, you will continue your half-day Birds and the Bees adventure with an informative visit to the hotel’s acclaimed green roof, home to 80,000 honeybees in two contained hives, and the source of the natural honey featured in the hotel’s popular honey pecan ice cream. The Birds and the Bees program is complimentary for overnight guests with reservations of The Ritz-Carlton, Charlotte and includes the experience and tour, transportation, lunch, refreshments and a special memento of the visit. Each scheduled session begins at 9 a.m. and concludes at 1:30 p.m., with advance reservations offered at 704.972.4401. Capacity is limited to ten guests per Getaway, and reservations are subject to availability.

This year’s Holiday Tea menu is to feature traditional and contemporary tea sandwiches in flavors of salmon rillette, smoked chicken salad, “BLTea,” egg and pimento cheese, and foie gras and currant parfait. Further menu inclusions will be highlighted by freshly-baked orange-cranberry scones with preserves and Devonshire cream, petit chocolate éclairs, seasonal Bar Cocoa macarons, sweet potato cheesecake, apple tart bars, and chocolate-peppermint mille-feuille pastries. A special children’s tea menu will also offer delightful mini-sandwiches of Nutella with hazelnuts and southern ham and cheese, along with a colorful selection of holiday sweets, cookies and added beverages.
