The National Cherry Blossom Festival
March 20 - April 12, 2015


See the blossoming of thousands of cherry trees on the Tidal Basin in Washington, D.C. The capital welcomes spring with this annual tradition begun by the gift of 3,000 trees to the United States from Japan in 1912 with a multitude of parades, festivals, concerts, and more. Popular events include:

Pink Tie Party
March 19, 2015; 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center

National Cherry Blossom Festival Opening Ceremony

Blossom Kite Festival
March 28, 2015; 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
National Mall – Constitution Ave & 17th Streets, NW

Kite enthusiasts from across the US and the world show off their stunt skills in this annual competition. Enjoy stunning views, special demonstrations and kite making for children.

Southwest Waterfront Fireworks Festival
April 4, 2015; 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Southwest Waterfront – 600 Water Street, SW

Enjoy over eight hours of music, family friendly water-related activities, cultural experiences, live entertainment and delicious cuisine. This year’s fireworks are a special display, presented by the City of Nagaoka, renowned throughout Japan for its spectacular fireworks festival. The fireworks illuminate the waterfront, with best viewing at the Southwest Waterfront promenade at 600 Water Street, SW or from East Potomac Park.

One of the Washington’s largest public events of the year, the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade features fantastic entertainment for the whole family including decorated floats, gigantic colorful helium balloons, marching bands, clowns, horses, antique cars, military and celebrity performances, and more.

White House Easter Egg Roll

This annual family event invites children to hunt for and race Easter Eggs on the White House Lawn while enjoying storytelling and a visit with the Easter Bunny. Complimentary tickets are distributed via an online lottery system, which normally takes place around February 20th through February 23rd. Ideal for the entire family, you will be met by a NPS representative who will talk about the history of Washington, DC and the location where you will volunteer. Your hands-on experience varies with the season and the need, and can include weeding, trimming overgrown shrubs and plants, painting park benches, or planting native foliage or annuals in famed circles and squares. Events are subject to weather conditions)
