Our Guide to Outdoor Adventures

Six visitors row an inflatable raft through a foamy river

Adventure-seekers will revel in excitement at the U.S. National Whitewater Center. The 1,100 acre site is home to a myriad of water and land activities designed for both the brave spirit and the family outing. After a day of activity, relax with a bite to eat while listening to live music at River Jam, the USNWC’s summer concert series.

Ritz-Carlton Recommends: For truly adventurous spirits, the Canopy Tour – a birds-eye expedition over the woodlands and Catawba River – is a must. Travel across platforms via zips, sky bridges, climbs, and repels while observing the vast wilderness. Depart on the journey during the day or put your bravery to the test on a twilight tour.

Where can you experience the thrill of the wind in your hair, the splash of cool water on your face, and the nostalgia of childhood in your heart? Carowinds Amusement Park, known to many as the “Thrill Capital of the Southeast,” is home to 13 incredible roller coasters, including Fury 325, the tallest and fastest Giga Coaster in the world.

Ritz-Carlton Recommends: After a long day of theme-park rides, cool off at the newly-opened Carolina Harbor Water Park, the largest water park in the Carolinas.

DAY 3: Sports

Whether you’re in town to visit the NASCAR Hall of Fame or catch a game during your favorite season, the Queen City has you covered. Charlotte is booming sports city and a proud host of the Belk Bowl, the Dr. Pepper ACC Football Championship, and international soccer matches, to name a few.

Ritz-Carlton Recommends: Head to the Knights Stadium for an exhilarating minor league baseball experience. The Knights have led all MILB in game attendance for the past two seasons and play host to the all-star game this year. Catch the fireworks after games Friday evenings.
