The best part about exploring a new town is getting an insider’s guide into the local scene.  Spend the day like a local discovering the hidden gems around the area.

Step into the past and learn more about the early inhabitants of Middle Georgia at the Rock Eagle Effigy Mound. This structure is believed to be more than 2,000 years old and was thought to have been built in the shape of an eagle or some other large bird.

Continue your day of exploration with over 15 miles of trails that surround the area’s wetlands and effigy.  This location is ideal for bird watching and viewing many other native wildlife inhabitants of Georgia.

Where to Eat
A must stop for true southern cuisine and hospitality is Yesterday Café, located in historic Downtown Greensboro.  Known as a favorite local hangout, their menu is a true testament to the term “Cooking with Love.”  A few favorites are the Fried Green Tomatoes and Country Fried Steak with cornbread.  Insider Tip: Don’t leave without ordering a slice of their famed Buttermilk Pie, best served warm.

Where to Drink
A newer addition to Downtown Greensboro, but a master to their craft is The Oconee Brewing Company.  This craft beer producer is located in a renovated cotton mill warehouse and is a perfect spot to listen to live music and of course, enjoy a cold draft beer.  A local favorite is the Lion Lamm IPA, with its slight floral and pine notes with a citrus finish.

You never know what hidden treasures you will find as you stroll around the quaint town of Greensboro. The Greensboro Antique Mall is located in the historic Big Store that was constructed in 1860.  With over 11,000 sq. ft. of space, you are destined to find a unique piece of art or a treasure to remind you of your visit to Georgia.

Take a little piece of the area with you when you visit Ripe Thing Market.  This open-air market sells a variety of gourmet groceries like jams and jellies, dips, olive oils, breads, picked vegetables, sweet treats and more.  While there grab a bite of their hand-made soups and sandwiches made with the freshest ingredients as well as an assortment of local, seasonal produce.
