Sustainability and Community Engagement at Penha Longa Resort
Sustainability & Community Engagement
At Penha Longa Resort, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact and supporting the local community. Located within the protected landscape of the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, the resort was thoughtfully developed with measures in place from the outset to preserve the surrounding biodiversity and minimize disruption to the natural environment. Enjoy our unique blend of historic heritage, world-class golf, and immersive nature experiences, all while knowing your stay is responsibly managed.
We are a proud Green Key Resort, committed to sustainability by reducing energy and water use, sorting waste, and avoiding chemical herbicides. Green Key is a global eco-label for tourism businesses meeting strict environmental standards. By choosing a Green Key hotel, you support environmental protection. Active in over 40 countries, Green Key is helping to shape a greener future.
47% of our property is forested, with a 2020 Forest Management Plan dividing it into conservation and production areas for cork oak and pine nuts. Sustainable efforts include cleaning, fire protection, pest control, and invasive species management to maintain forest health.
Each year, we plant around 100 native trees, including maritime pines, cork oaks, holm oaks, and myrtles, with the help of our team and property residents. This initiative enhances Penha Longa's flora, supporting its biodiversity and natural beauty.
We reduce waste and plastic use by eliminating plastic straws, cups, and bottles, recycling to-go containers, and collecting Nespresso capsules. We also offer electric vehicle charging stations and have a system for used oil collection. By avoiding single-use materials, we minimize contamination and waste, ensuring responsible energy use and waste management.
