Winter Recreation

The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe is situated mid-mountain at Northstar California ski resort and features ski-in, ski-out access with mountain services. Complimentary transportation is provided between the nearby Village at Northstar and The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe. The Village at Northstar centers around a 9,000 square foot outdoor skating rink that is surrounded by fire pits, cabana seating and a variety of shops and restaurants. True North, the on-site ski shop in The Ritz-Carlton features premier brands of men's and women's ski and fashion apparel, performance skis and boots, footwear, extensive eye wear, and accessories for outdoor recreation and relaxation. The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe provides ski valet services slopeside and upon check-in for every guest. In the ski valet area, equipment is stored for guests. The resort’s ski valets assist each guest with their boots and escort them to the slope-side terrace for ski-in, ski-out access to Northstar's lifts. When guests return to this exceptional ski hotel in Lake Tahoe, the ski valet will retrieve their equipment and store it overnight.

Enhancements to the Mountain Experience

  • Visitors will find upscale shops in the Village at Northstar including the addition of Icebreaker, the pioneer in natural merino wool apparel.
  • The Big Springs Gondola received a complete makeover in advance of the winter season. Guests will now enjoy a comfortable ride to mid-mountain in refurbished cabins that feature new doors and windows, cushioning in the seats, upgraded ski and snowboard racks that accommodate the newest technology, and a new exterior.
  • On the mountain, trail widening and tree thinning completed in the Promised Land ski pod over the summer will make for improved access to some of the resort’s most popular tree skiing and riding.

Custom Learning Experiences
At Northstar, it’s all about progression. Regardless of age or ability, there are innovative lesson programs and varied terrain that cater to those who want to improve. From the new Ripperroo Riglet Park for snowboarders ages 3-6, to the one-of-a-kind Burton Snowboard Academy, traditional group lessons to the Ultimate 4, at Northstar you can customize your experience and make the most out of your time on the mountain.

Whether you’re looking for adventure in the backcountry, a guide to show you where to find the best snow on the mountain, or to learn or improve your skills, Northstar’s Adventure, Guiding and Learning Center offers advanced, one-on-one training. No matter if you’re just starting out or have more experience, at Northstar you’re sure to learn something new or simply build confidence.

Ski & Snowboard School

The Northstar Resort Ski and Snowboard School » has lesson programs suited for all levels. “Magic carpet” beginner lifts make the first day easy, with station teaching for those who prefer to learn at their own pace and skill clinics for advanced intermediate and above skiers ready to take it to the next level. There are a number of programs available including programs designed for parents skiing with young children.
Burton Snowboard Academy

Designed to welcome new riders to the sport of snowboarding and help those already in the sport to improve their skills. To enhance learning, all-day programs are limited to a maximum of six students. Burton, the inventor of snowboarding, has their only snowboard academy in the world located at Northstar.
