Impact Experiences are compelling social and environmental impact activities where there is one constant – each program makes a lasting and authentic difference.

Impact Experiences offers on-property activities that can be incorporated in the conference agenda during lunch breaks, receptions and coffee breaks, including:

• Partnering with the hotel’s culinary team to prepare the ingredients for a regionally adapted dish for donation to a local hunger relief organization;
• Assembling school supplies and art materials in backpacks for donation to students whose academic success is threatened by poverty;
• Collaborating in teams to assemble emergency preparedness kits for shipping to a disaster relief facility or community organization;
• Designing and creating greetings and birthday cards for children in a local pediatric healthcare facility or children’s organization.
• Impact Hour, a platform for leaders from The Ritz-Carlton Community Footprints partner organizations to showcase how they are successfully addressing social and environmental issues.

Additionally, Signature Impact Experiences invite our group guests to take part in an off-site volunteer activity, unique to the destination.

Thank Our Troops

Help honor Pentagon City’s connection to the U.S. military and gain a deeper appreciation of the United Service Organizations (USO), founded by order of President Franklin Roosevelt in 1941. Group guests convene at the USO facility to not only learn about the nonprofit’s mission, but to also prepare care packages and send messages of thanks to members of the military.

Within our hotels, we reduce energy and water usage, offer a linen and terry reuse program, and utilize environmentally preferable cleaning products. Our meeting venues support a sustainable future by offering recycled paper products and pens, water service options, organic and local food and sustainable seafood options.

Responsible Energy

NRG Curtailment Solutions: The Ritz-Carlton, Pentagon City participates in NRG’s Power Pay Demand Response program annually, allowing the hotel to control its energy usage, reduce costs, and enhance reliability by stabilizing the power grid and supporting future innovation.

LED Lighting Upgrades: Over 1,700 lighting fixtures have been surveyed and upgraded to increase energy efficiency, with LED lighting replacing fluorescent lighting in all Stairwell and Back of House areas.

Smart Thermostat Technology: Telkonet smart thermostats have been installed in each guest room to decrease energy usage while maximizing comfort.

Air Quality

Air Purifier Usage: Air purifiers are in use in public spaces of the hotel to filter and remove harmful airborne microorganisms, chemicals, gas odors and smoke, using a nine stage absorption filter.

Water Savings

Touchless Faucet Installation: Touchless faucets have been installed in our public restrooms to help conserve water, using battery operated infrared sensors to prevent excess energy and water usage.

Zero Food Waste

Valley Proteins Partnership: Valley Proteins, Inc. allows the hotel to recycle all used cooking oil, using it in the production of animal feeds, industrial products, and renewable fuels in the US and in the rest of the world.

BioGreen360 Garick Partnership: BioGreen360, a leading innovator in distributed food waste management solutions, and Garick, a North American distributor, processor and recycler of sustainable natural resource products, allows the hotel to repurpose 100% of our food waste as an all-natural compost product, diverting it from landfills.

Sustainability Milestones

Since beginning its partnership with BioGreen360 and Garick, The Ritz-Carlton, Pentagon City has diverted over 38 tons of food waste from landfills, and has transformed it into over 700 yards of organic fertilizer at Garick's New Milford, Connecticut facility, generating over 188 carbon offsets.

That is the carbon equivalent of:

• 18 million phones charged

• 369,000 miles driven
