October 4, 11, 18 and 25, 2014: Pumpkins, Pumpkins and Pumpkins
In the Kitchen with Chef Tanaka, a series of monthly, demonstration-style cooking class highlighting seasonal fare sourced from the renowned farms surrounding the coastal resort.
Half Moon Bay is the Pumpkin Capitol of the World and the Pumpkin, Pumpkin, Pumpkin class highlights creative ways to incorporate pumpkin into a menu. Chef Tanaka reviews the different varieties of pumpkins and outlines the best use for each type including which varietal makes the best soup, the perfect pasta or ravioli filling, or stands up to a flavorful curry dish.

In the Kitchen events are $85 per person, inclusive of tax and gratuity and are held in Navio from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The program includes a three-course lunch with wine paired by Petra Polakovicova, the resort’s sommelier.

Happy Howl-o-ween Yappy Hour
Thursday, October 23, 2014 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
$5 entry fee per dog for costume contest, entry fee donated to The Peninsula Humane Society

“Bark” your calendar for Yappy Hour! Stop by the resort’s Cypress Lawn for schmoozing and sniffing with fellow dogs and dog lovers. Canine clientele will savor complimentary treats, toys and flavored waters while their owners enjoy specially priced beer, wine and appetizers from the bar. A portion of all proceeds will go towards The Peninsula Humane Society.

October we will celebrate Howl-o-ween with a costume contest. Entree fee of $5 per dog will be accepted to walk the red carpet. Celebrity judges will be hosting the evening and entree fee will go directly to The Peninsula Humane Society. We look forward to seeing all you ghosts and ghouls!

In the Kitchen with Turkey and Root Vegetables

In the Kitchen with Chef Tanaka, a series of monthly, demonstration-style cooking class highlighting seasonal fare sourced from the renowned farms surrounding the coastal resort. We want to showcase a different method of cooking a Thanksgiving meal. Chef Tanaka will review brining and cooking the turkey breast and leg separately to create a more refined Thanksgiving dinner, as well as the usual whole roasted turkey. Being that it's fall the event will focus on great root vegetables that will be in season to make a great addition to the meal, in addition to using different vegetables like celery root, parsnips, sunchokes, and salsify.

A special brunch will be presented every second Saturday throughout the fall and winter seasons. The theme of the brunch is barbecue and features a smoker station highlighting a variety of house-smoked meats. The selection changes each month and can include such items as barbecue brisket, pork belly, lamb chop, prime rib and salmon. Other favorites include jalapeno corn bread and cheddar bacon biscuits, smoked prawns in the shell and poached eggs on a biscuit with sausage gravy. The brunch will also include a create-your-own Bloody Mary station featuring seasonal garnishes such as apple sauce, spicy pumpkin seeds and pumpkin bitters, goat cheese skewers, and artisanal spiced salts.

Changing of the Gard-en
Friday, November 14, 2014 at 4 p.m.
On the third Friday of the month, the resort’s Growing Wall will be changed out in The Conservatory. At the same time, one of the featured Homegrown Cocktails will be retired from the menu and a new cocktail will be placed on the menu. Guests who are in The Conservatory during the change out will be treated to a sample taste of the new cocktail. The Growing Wall features live herbs that are the inspiration for the Homegrown Cocktail menu and the fresh herbs are incorporated in drinks.

Reducing Hunger with Coastside Hope
November 20, 2014 / 1:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Volunteer to assist the local community while on vacation. The resort’s Give Back Getaway program provides the opportunity to sort, package and distribute food to in-need families in Half Moon Bay through Coastside Hope. The program takes place the third Thursday of each month at the Coastside Hope facilities. Sorting and packaging of food is from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. with distribution following from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Guests can choose to participate for either two or four hours.

Eleventh Annual Gingerbread House Competition and Silent Auction

From candy-covered castles to edible houses, The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay’s Annual Gingerbread House Contest accepts creative entries by children, home cooks and culinary professionals. Contest winners are announced during the Holiday Tree Lighting Celebration. Many houses are up for auction, with proceeds benefiting Coastside Children’s Programs.

In the Kitchen with Dungeness Crab and Pears

In the Kitchen with Chef Tanaka, a series of monthly, demonstration-style cooking class highlighting seasonal fare sourced from the renowned farms surrounding the coastal resort. Dungeness Crab season starting in the class explores different ways to utilize the iconic shellfish of San Francisco. Chef Tanaka will demonstrate ways to use the entire shell fish from the juicy lump meat to the flavorful shells that can create a great sauce or broth. The sweetness of pears pair perfectly with crab and learn different methods of using the winter pears like the Bosc and Comice.
