Circus Sarasota is proud to welcome as its Ringmaster the renowned Joseph Bauer, Jr., a star of Bauer’s Circus Maximus and a 15th generation member of one of Switzerland's oldest circus families. His father had been personally signed by John Ringling and came to the United States to perform with Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus in 1954.
The five of the acts making their U.S. premieres this season are masters of the Russian bar, The White Crow; the artistic hand balancing of, Crazy Flight; Daniel Hochsteiner, a true juggler extraordinaire; Jimmy Folco, a classic Italian clown; and the elegant aerial corde Lisse act of Szebasztian Richter and Krisztina Eotvos. Other popular acts in the show program who have achieved their success in the U.S. and abroad include the Poemas, a family Risley foot juggling act; The Smirnov classic Russian quick change artists; daredevil equestrian acrobats the Kambarov Kazakhs; and Circus Sarasota’s own Queen of the Air, Dolly Jacobs.
SUMMARY OF PERFORMERS
- The White Crow captured the 2007 Cirque du Demain gold medal, with an act that takes the breath away with catapulted twists and somersaults high above the paddle-thin Russian Bar below. Johnny Gasser, Yuri Kreer, and Carole Demers possess an amazing amount of the strength, skill and grace required by The Russian Bar, a sophisticated circus art form. Demers, the flyer, is truly astounding and together their physical strength and years of acrobatic training are fully evident.
- Young, handsome and strong, the four Ukrainians of Crazy Flight fly effortlessly through the air, vaulting tumbling and balancing in an inspiring harmony of athleticism and artistry. Serhiy Sakum, Dmytro Zemlyanyy, Ihor Kozhyn and Andriy Poslushnyy have won all of the major awards in the Circus World. A very difficult Voltage Act, Crazy Flight exemplifies the youth and rebirth of the rigorous Circus disciplines of the past.
- Daniel Hochsteiner, Juggler Extraordinaire, has achieved star status the world over with fast paced, athletic juggling winning gold and silver medals at Festivals in China, Korea and France. Juggling Tennis racquets, Hochsteiner is one of the most innovative, skilled artists performing today. His astounding technique and ability separate him from all others.
- World renowned as one of the funniest and most talented comedic performers, Jimmy Folco has been a headliner on all of the major Circuses and Variety Theatres in Europe. Folco, a clown in the classic Italian style, is joyful, ludicrous, and a classic yet modern master of the situation comedy.
- Get ready for Szebasztian Richter and Krisztina Eotvos. This charming and elegant aerial web ballet act from Hungary, has been the hit of festivals all over Europe.
- The Poemas are a traditional family in the Circus world– they juggle their kids! Watch Dad Adrian toss and tumble his daughters on his feet for a classic Risley act circus thrill.
- In a few unfathomable minutes, you will see Mrs. Smirnov model her entire wardrobe. The Smirnov quick change artists and illusionists are elegant, mysterious and will easily achieve the impossible before your eyes!
- The thundering hooves of five horses galloping at full speed in the ring announce the arrival of the fierce Kambarov Kazakhs. They’ll fearlessly throw themselves in harm’s way under, over and between the horses landing astride them proudly on handstands or on feet.
- And flying high above them all will be our Queen of the Air, the muse of Circus Sarasota, Dolly Jacobs. Her artistry in the air is a magical wonder that never ceases to hypnotize.
