U.S. Open Qualifier

The road to the U.S. Open starts at The Ritz-Carlton, as The Members Golf Club has been chosen again this year to host a local qualifying event and welcome the area’s top amateurs, club professionals, and local touring professionals aspiring to make it onto one of golf’s grandest stages, the US Open Championship. Those who advance through local and sectional qualifying will earn spots in the 108th U.S. Open, scheduled from June 12 - 15, 2008 at Torrey Pines South Course in La Jolla, CA. Tee times begin a 9 a.m.

Sarasota lays claim as the circus capital of the world, and is the winter home to Ringling’s famed circus. Big Cat Habitat and Gulf Coast Sanctuary provides safe haven for big cats, bears and other animals in need, founded by Kay Rosaire, who hails from a circus family dynasty. You will come face-to-face with the animals as you perform any number of essential tasks including cleaning and building cages, preparing food, feeding animals and mowing grass. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Horticulture Tour at The Members Golf Club

The Ritz-Carlton Members Golf Club is a facility that acts not only as a world-class private golf course, but also is an arboretum and nature preserve. The 16 manmade lakes on the 320-acre property have attracted various species of water fowl and wildlife previously unknown to the area; the landscaping around the golf course and entire property is a cornucopia of tree and plant life whose color combinations have never been seen before on a Florida golf course. Purple/pink bougainvillea from Brazil, red ‘Calypso’ oleanders from Eurasia, and blue plumbago from South Africa and Confederate Jasmine from India are just a few of the plants and shrubs that mix with native trees such as live oaks, laurel oaks, cabbage palms and magnolia. Director of Golf Grounds Nicholas von Hofen and horticulturist Angelo Randaci will walk you through quiet pathways along colorful flowerbeds for an educational experience of our native flora and fauna. Mother's Day Cooking Class

Join us for a very special cooking class and demonstration. In honor of Mother's Day, Vernona Chef de Cuisine Greg Howe will be joined by his mother, Therese Howe, for a fresh and exciting afternoon of "Summer Entertaining: Light and Easy." Chef Greg and his mom share easy tips to serve up an inventive menu infused with new flavors for your casual summer entertaining. Dishes will include a fresh Seafood Ceviche, Summer Carpaccio, Heirloom Tomato Spaghetti and more! The 2-hour class takes place in The Ritz-Carlton Lobby Lounge from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is $40 each per person (plus tax and gratuity).

Meet us on the beach at The Members Beach Club for our nightly celebration featuring sunsets, cool drinks, bongo drumming and sand between your toes. And if you are lucky, you will see the top edge of the sun turn green for a brief moment, before disappearing below the horizon. Be sure to arrive at the beach at least one half hour early to appreciate the full effect of nature's most spectacular evening show.
