DENVER, Colo. – March 18, 2019 The Ritz-Carlton, Denver has named Michael Poompan Executive Chef of The Mile High City’s first and longest running AAA Five Diamond property.

Managing a team of 35 culinarians, Chef Poompan will spearhead the food and beverage operations of the iconic luxury hotel, which includes 202 guestrooms, 13,000 square feet of event space, a 6,000 square foot spa, and the property’s signature restaurant, ELWAY’S Downtown. Beginning his career at The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel, he has worked with the Renaissance Long Beach Hotel, reopened The Ritz-Carlton, Rancho Mirage, and recently served as the Executive Chef of the Coronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa. With over 12 years of experience, he brings an accomplished skillset and a sincere mission to the table; simple food created with sustainable programming and ingredients that celebrate local farmers, artisans, anglers, and ranchers.

Chef Poompan shares “As I discover Colorado’s ingredients and seasonality, I am excited to craft menu favorites, new dishes and memorable events with fresh creativity”. In line with Marriott International’s Serve 360 efforts, he encourages his team to challenge one another to create new dishes inspired by local selections with sustainability in mind. Focusing on reducing food plastic waste, he is introducing a hotel-wide campaign to lead the property with daily steps that impact the hotel’s no-waste efforts. Additionally, Michael and his team look forward to collaborating with local partners this year including Denver Botanic Gardens for a special summer “pop-up” dinner at the famous York Street location, and with the Colorado Restaurant Foundation’s ProStart program, which focuses on culinary education for aspirational chefs at local high schools.

Chef Poompan is passionate about connecting to his community, with a priority on children and improving knowledge of nutrition. In 2010, he was invited to Washington D.C. for a kickoff event with Michelle Obama for the “Chefs Move to Schools”, and looks forward to serving on several boards and committees for local Denver organizations.

Michael and his wife, Sandra, have one daughter, Nigella. The family enjoys being out and exploring their local neighborhood with their two dogs, Peanut Butter and Cereal.
