Nikko, or sunlight in Japanese, is home to unspoiled forests enveloping ancient temples and a spirit rooted in local traditions. With just two days to explore the area, one can discover its history, cuisine and natural beauty.
Nature, history and culture are the foundation of life in Nikko. Set in Japan’s northern Kanto region, the area offers an abundance of beauty in all forms. Lake Chuzenji, the country’s highest natural lake, can be explored with a hike among the surrounding mountains or a boat ride, and UNESCO World Heritage temples and shrines are hidden amid the forest-covered mountains.

Start the day with yoga (it’s sometimes hosted on the resort terrace) followed by breakfast at The Japanese Restaurant.

Just in front of the hotel, Japan’s highest natural lake, Lake Chuzenji, beckons. A 15.5-mile hiking trail runs along the lakefront, or you can admire the scenery from the comfort of a boat cruise.
