Two Michelin stars testify to Chef Sergi Arola’s consistently creative cuisine. This notable chef began his formal culinary education at the Escuela de Hostelería y Restauración de Barcelona. He has worked in various restaurants including Cal Bote, L´Aram Terazza del Jardín de La Jijonenca, Barcelona Talaia Mar with Ferran Adrià, Barcelona El Bulli with Ferran Adrià , Cala Montjoi, Roses Stage with Pierre Gagnaire in Paris.

In 1997, Sergi set up a restaurant in Madrid called La Broche, he began to gain recognition for his work with awards that include:

  • Club de Chefs de Catalunya Young Chefs Competition, Third Place, 1991
  • Cuisine Event in Vitoria, the first non-Basque to win this award, 1996
  • First Michelin Star, 1999
  • The International Gastronomy Academy the “Prix de l’Art de la cuisine aux chefs de l’avenir” as Chef with Greatest Potential, 1999
  • Second Michelin Star, 2000
  • Gourmetour Guide 2001, Restaurant with Best Dessert Pastry
  • Campsa Guide, awared two suns, 2001
  • Gourmetour Guide, Best Chef of the Year, 2002
  • Amer prize for best Chef in Madrid
  • National Gastronomy Prize, 2003

Sergi has now opened his own restaurant in Madrid, Sergi Arola Gastro. Opening in February, 2008, it has recently been recognised with two Michelin Stars awarded simultaneously in recognition of his outstanding work in his new venture.

Sergi continues to surprise and delight guests with his personal, signature cuisine and the stylish informality of Arola at the Hotel Arts.
