Mar-a-Lago Club
The Mar-a-Lago Estate was opened officially in January of 1927 after four years of construction. Marjorie Merriweather Post (then Mrs. E.F. Hutton) searched for several years to find a proper location between the ocean and Lake Worth. The quest for a new home was begun when it became apparent that she was to be the dowager queen of Palm Beach. At the time, there was little else here but undergrowth and swampy grounds, seemingly of not much use for a building site. With her realtor, she crawled through underbrush of jungle-type growth; the consequence of that search is the main house “Mar-a-Lago”, which is Latin for “Sea to Lake.” The site on which Mar-a-Lago sits is now considered the most valuable parcel of land anywhere in Florida.
Flagler Museum
When it was completed in 1902, the
New York Herald proclaimed that Whitehall, Henry Flagler’s home in Palm Beach, was “more wonderful than any palace in Europe, grander and more magnificent than any other private dwelling in the world.” As wonderful as Whitehall was in 1902, and remains today, it was built to be, and has always been, so much more than a house. Unlike any of Flagler’s other homes, Whitehall was a literal manifestation of Andrew Carnegie’s admonition, in his essay titled
The Gospel of Wealth, to his fellow titans of business that, “It is well, nay essential, for the progress of the race that the houses of some should be homes for all that is highest and best in literature and the arts, and for all the refinements of civilization...” Carnegie’s description of the kind of houses the business leaders of the Gilded Age should build, is a near-perfect description of a museum. After all, the word museum literally means “a home for the Muses of arts and literature and their works.” And, build a museum, Florida’s first museum, is exactly what Flagler did.
City Place
Reminiscent of an Italian town center, CityPlace is one of the top visitor destinations in Palm Beach County with premier shopping, dining and entertainment. Featuring Macy’s, Muvico/IMAX, Barnes and Noble, Anushka Spa Salon and Cosmedical Centre, over 60 shops, 25 restaurants and regular live entertainment on the plaza in front of dancing water show fountains.
Ragtops Motorcars Museum
The Museum at Ragtops Motorcars is the host to a variety of fun endeavors. “A must see destination!” according to the New York Times; starting with its Historic designated three story Museum built in 1925 as the Palm Beach Cadillac- LaSalle dealership, the largest building of its kind at the time North of Miami. Ragtops has evolved into an ever changing delight. Originally founded as an antique and special interest collectible automobile dealership, it drifted into the special events industry almost by accident. Now capable of entertaining up to 1,500 guests using both the three story building and the Tropical Art Deco venue also on property, the constantly changing automotive inventory creates a very impressive backdrop to the events held on a constant basis.
National Croquet Center
The National Croquet Center is the largest dedicated croquet facility in the world, setting a new standard for the sport of croquet. Built on ten acres in West Palm Beach, Florida by the Croquet Foundation of America, the National Croquet Center features a 19,000 square foot clubhouse that sits in the midst of a vast and near-perfect lawn. The clubhouse, designed in the Florida Keys style with broad wrap-around verandas, has meeting and banquet spaces for 300 or more. If you are looking for a spectacular view, step out onto the veranda and take in the beauty of our 12 full-size croquet lawns.
Unlike a traditional 18-hole golf course, here you can have your whole group playing together at one time, outhitting one another, settling old scores, and starting new ones. On the croquet lawn, as in the boardroom, there is plenty of room for split-second decision making; consensus building; and underdog, come-from-behind victories. And on our croquet lawns, we guarantee a level playing field.
By mixing the fun game of croquet with food, drinks and an elegant ambiance, we offer corporate and social groups an unmatched entertainment package ideal for corporate outings, team building, charity fundraisers, incentive groups, client entertainment, VIP functions, cocktail parties or other social gatherings.
