Day 1: Discover the Past

Step outside the hotel’s front door onto the city’s famed Paseo de la Reforma. Inspired by the grandeur of the Champs-Élysées in Paris, the street itself is a work of art, with striking monuments adorning each intersection. Originally imagined by Emperor Maximilian I of Mexico to connect his residence at the Chapultepec Castle to the National Palace, today it serves as the city’s primary thoroughfare and one of its signature landmarks. 

Follow the Reforma into Chapultepec Park, a sprawling green space heralded for its biodiversity, lush gardens and iconic landmarks. Twice the size of Central Park, the area has been inhabited since the Aztec era, and that rich history has been preserved throughout by way of castles, museums and monuments. Standouts include the National History Museum, housed inside the park’s namesake castle; the National Museum of Anthropology, covering more than 3,000 years of history, from the Olmecs and Toltecs to the Maya and Aztecs; and the Museum of Modern Art, whose permanent collection includes works by Diego Rivera, Jose Clemente Orozco, David Alfaro Siqueiros and Rufino Tamayo.
