Explore Mexico’s capital city to gain a deeper understanding of the country’s cultural, artistic and gastronomic diversity.

There are few places around the world that can rival the effervescence of Mexico City. While three days may not be enough to experience everything the city has to offer, with The Ritz-Carlton, Mexico City, as your home base, you’ll be in close proximity to some of the city’s most beloved treasures.

Day 1: Discover the Past

Step outside the hotel’s front door onto the city’s famed Paseo de la Reforma. Inspired by the grandeur of the Champs-Élysées in Paris, the street itself is a work of art, with striking monuments adorning each intersection. Originally imagined by Emperor Maximilian I of Mexico to connect his residence at the Chapultepec Castle to the National Palace, today it serves as the city’s primary thoroughfare and one of its signature landmarks.

Follow the Reforma into Chapultepec Park, a sprawling green space heralded for its biodiversity, lush gardens and iconic landmarks. Twice the size of Central Park, the area has been inhabited since the Aztec era, and that rich history has been preserved throughout by way of castles, museums and monuments. Standouts include the National History Museum, housed inside the park’s namesake castle; the National Museum of Anthropology, covering more than 3,000 years of history, from the Olmecs and Toltecs to the Maya and Aztecs; and the Museum of Modern Art, whose permanent collection includes works by Diego Rivera, Jose Clemente Orozco, David Alfaro Siqueiros and Rufino Tamayo.

Round out your day with dinner overlooking the park at SAMOS Sabores Míos, where chefs take guests on a culinary journey across Mexico, from its remote jungles to its Pacific shores. The menu here is infused with — and informed by — the chef’s memories and deep ties to the region, making for a truly meaningful meal.

Day 2: Explore Art and Culture

Start back on the Reforma, heading east this time to the city’s historic center, where hidden murals and an ancient market await. Meander through La Merced, a traditional public market that dates back to the Aztec era, making it the oldest one in the country. Sample traditional antojitos like squash blossom quesadillas and stock up on souvenirs as you soak up the market’s bustling energy. Nearby, at the Antiguo Colegio de San Ildefonso, glimpse early examples of the Mexican muralist movement: José Clemente Orozco’s frescoes cover three stories on the exterior patios of the building.

From the market, make your way to the Museo Frida Kahlo. Set inside Kahlo’s longtime home, the Casa Azul, where she and Diego Rivera hosted a fascinating array of luminaries from Mexico and abroad, the museum and its gardens have displayed personal objects and paintings by both artists, folk art, pre-Columbian sculpture, and an array of items that were once part of Kahlo’s life and inspiration.

Back at the hotel, wind down at The Ritz-Carlton Spa, Mexico City, where treatments tap into the spiritual traditions of Mexico City's Aztec culture, utilizing native botanicals and time-honored practices to promote healing.

Day 3: Take a Culinary Tour

Mexico City has long been a veritable paradise for gourmands, and in recent years, has become a must-visit for anyone who loves to eat. Begin your day in the posh suburb of Jardines del Pedregal, where food, art and architecture combine for something uniquely CDMX at Tetetlán. The brainchild of contemporary art collector Cesar Cervantes, this cultural-hub-meets-cafe is the perfect place to dine after exploring the neighboring Casa Pedregal, a recently restored Luis Barragán structure that now houses a library of art and architecture books, an exhibition space, a shop and a restaurant.

Head back to the city for a stop in the chic Juarez neighborhood, where local designers, boutiques and galleries line the streets. Pick up a few treats to-go from nearby La Rifa, an open-air café dedicated to artisanal Mexican chocolate, before heading back to the hotel’s Carlotta Reforma Sky Bar for a pisco sour at sunset.
