The Ritz-Carlton New York, Battery Park has welcomed a new Executive Chef, Chef Philip Medora, to join its exceptional culinary team. In his new position, Chef Medora will be overseeing all culinary programs at the hotel and its award-winning restaurant, 2West. Chef joins the hotel with more than 25 years of experience in the food industry, most recently as Executive Chef for the Newark Liberty International Airport Marriott.

Chef Medora graduated from Johnson & Wales University with a degree in Culinary Arts and was an apprentice at Tavern on the Green and Maxwell’s Plum in New York City. Throughout his remarkable career in the hospitality industry, he has held every culinary position in the food and beverage operations. With experience at four Marriott Hotels and one Renaissance Hotel, he has been an Executive Chef for the past 15 years. He was “Marriott Chef of the Year” and was the recipient of the Award of Culinary Excellence (A.C.E.) in 2007.

Embracing the culinary world at a young age while serving as a restaurant attendant, Chef Medora became fascinated with chefs’ work and the artistic approach to their craft. After culinary school, he met Chef Georges Masraff, whom he humbly acknowledges as being extremely influential in his career, learning from him both passion and stamina. Chef Medora will contribute his lifelong dedication and unwavering enthusiasm to the inspired and innovative kitchen at The Ritz-Carlton New York, Battery Park.

“I look forward to bringing new, fresh ideas to the food and beverage operation that will exceed our Ritz-Carlton guest experience,” commented Chef Medora. Although Chef delights in preparing many types of cuisine, he specializes in seafood dishes with locally-sourced ingredients and would characterize his style as contemporary Americana, a modernization of Americana featuring flavors from around the world. “As a chef, my approach to food is about sourcing the best seasonal ingredients to paint the best picture for our guests,” he explained.

When not in the kitchen, Chef Medora is an avid outdoorsman and skier who enjoys vegetable gardening and spending time with his wife Kimberly and 16-year-old daughter, Gianna.
