SAN JUAN, P.R. (AUGUST 10, 2017) – The Ritz-Carlton, San Juan is pleased to announce the appointment of José Martín as the resort’s executive chef. Martín, who joined the hotel leadership committee earlier this month, will helm the culinary team of the resort in elevating its dining experience for locals and travelers alike.

“The family of The Ritz-Carlton, San Juan is extremely proud to promote Chef Martin,” said Jacqueline Volkart, general manager of the hotel. “We are confident that his expertise, passion and talent will heighten the resort’s dining offerings, bringing a new level of excellence to our guests’ culinary experiences” added Volkart.

A veteran of The Ritz-Carlton, Martín brings nearly 10 years of culinary experience from around the world. Originally from Argentina, he has held previous positions in London, Curacao, United States, and Argentina, as well at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman in the Cayman Islands. Prior to joining the leadership committee at The Ritz-Carlton, San Juan, Martín served as the chef de cuisine at BLT Steak restaurant in Puerto Rico, where he developed a strong foundation in fine dining and catering. 

As executive chef, Martín oversees the resort’s four dining venues, including signature steakhouse restaurant – BLT Steak, as well as the Sushi Bar and Lobby Lounge, Mares morning restaurant, and Ocean Bar and Grill, which offers a fresh menu of seafood and grilled dishes. Chef Martín also oversees the resort’s in-room dining and banquets, catering events ranging in size from small meetings to large weddings of more than 500 people.

Chef Martín realized his passion for cooking at an early age when he worked for his mother in her mountaintop café in Córdoba, Argentina. He is known for his passion and an unwavering commitment to quality.
