Giving Back with the Battery Conservancy

May 2012 - available every Tuesday

This is a great opportunity to get your hands in soil and learn about perennial gardens and general garden care – and experience the best harbor views in town. From March through November, The Battery Conservancy’s horticulture team of four professionals works with volunteers on Tuesdays from 9AM to noon in The Battery’s gardens. Volunteer activities include operations like “Beautifying The Battery” by cleaning and beautifying the park and lawns or “Paint the Best Seats in Town” by painting and oiling Battery benches. Volunteers can also work in the gardens or in the Battery Urban Farm and assist with weeding, seeding and transplanting and selling the fresh organic vegetables at the farm stand. Vegetables that are not sold at the farm stand are donated to a Food Pantry by The Battery Conservancy. Guests participating in the activity are encouraged to wear clothing that can get dirty as well as sturdy footwear.

Children must be ten or older. All children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent. Reservations: 48 hours advance reservation required.
